Tackling Stains



Stain can be divided in two main types
1 Built up stains
2 Absorbed stains
Some substances such as blood and egg produce a stain that is a combination of the two.
Always treat these combination stains as built up stain first then treat them for absorption.
BUILT UP STAINS
Built up stains are those stains which are made by thick substances that need to be scraped off before treatment Scoop them up quickly so that they do not pentrate far.
ABSORBED STAINS
The liquad will sink quickly in to the surface. Blot the area with paper towels ar a white cloth immediately.Launder or Sponge to remove rest of the stains
Different Surfaces
Stains should be treated not only according to type, but also according to the surface on which they fall.
The three method outline the basic treatment that can be used for stains on carpets, stains on a non washable fabrics and stains on clothes.
CARPETS
After removing any deposit treat the remaining mark with a solution of carpet shampoo.IF this leave a startlingly clean spot, you will need to shampoo the entire carpet using either a manual or electric machine.
UPHOLSTERY
Scrape up any deposit and blot the stain well. Apply talcum powder and leave until it appears discoloured, having absorbed the stains. Wipe away with a cloth. Apply more talcum powderif the mark persist
CLOTHES
Treat stains on washable clothes as soon as they occur and always before you launder the item. Use lukewarm or cold water and a cloth to dab the mark.Alternatively soak the garment if recommended.
Stain on Washable fabrics
Laundering a stained garments can set the stains making it very difficult to remove.
Always treat stains before laundering using one of the three methods below.
General Treatment
Rinse stains in cold or lukewarm water as soon as possible after they occur.
Sponge with clear water until the stains fades.
NEVER USE HOT WATER ON STAINS, IT WILL CAUSE THE TO SET
PROTIEN STAINS
Stains made from substances such as milk and blood respond best to soaking in biological detergents. Do not soak items for longer than recommended always immerse the whole item.
PERSISTENT STAINS
If stains persist after rinsing or soaking use a stain or grease solvent before laundering.
place a white cloth under the stains to avoid transferring the stain to another layor, then dab.
FABRICS TREATMENT NOTES
1 COLOUREDS Treat stains with care to avoid producing bleached patches. Soak the whole item when using a bleaching treatment such as laundary borex.
2 WHITES Natural fabrics can usually be bleached. Synthetic and mixtures can yellow with this treatment and may respond better to the correct detergent.
3 Natural Fabrics Beacuse these can be washed at high temperature, rinsing or pre soaking items before laundering is usually enough to remove most stains.
4 SYNTHETIC FABRICS These are easily damaged by some chemicalsso test any treatment on a hidden part before tackling the stains
5 DELICATES These fabrics should always be treated cautiously.Avoid using strong chemical treatments on delicate fabrics.
